On the eve of the Senate Judiciary Committee vote to send Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the full Senate for a vote, we express our continued concern. This unseemly rush is an affront to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and all of us who respect her legacy of work in the interest of all Americans. A 6-3 Supreme Court endangers many of the hard-won victories for equality in the Court.

We believe that the case for the Equal Rights Amendment is made stronger than ever.

We are watching– along with many of you — the Senate Judiciary Hearings –the prelude to the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

It is an unacceptable rush to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is clear that our rights to equality and freedom are in danger. Justice Ginsburg’s lifetime of work on behalf of women must not be erased.

On this day of celebrating the contributions and sacrifices of our country’s Indigenous people, a day after celebrating Coming Out Day for the LGBTQI+ community, and the International Day of the Girl. All things we care deeply about.

On this day we are also watching the confirmation hearing of Judge Amy Coney Barrett in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Participating in those hearings, Senator Kamala Harris, Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States. So much of what we care about is at stake here.

After tonight’s historic debate with the first Black woman Vice-Presidential candidate, we have much to think about.

There will be many “distractions,” but we cannot afford to take our eyes off of November 3, 2020. When we wake up tomorrow morning, we will have exactly 37 days to prepare for the most consequential election in most of our lifetimes. The candidates we vote for must support gender and race equality.
