The struggle for moms in the United States


Being a mom can be an incredibly rewarding life experience, but it can also be one of the most challenging and stressful experiences a woman can have. I was already aware of the lack of support for mothers in the U.S. Now that I am a mom, I realize that the challenges are bigger and more pressing than I anticipated.

Today marks the first day of Black Maternal Health Week 2023 – a week that recognizes the failing of the United States health care, education, justice systems, and employers to address the systemic racism and misogynoir that leads to a maternal mortality rate that is 3-4 times higher for Black women than it is for non-Hispanic white women.
