We want to share with you the breaking news from House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer in his most recent Dear Colleague letter, indicating legislation that will be voted on in the upcoming weeks. HJ Res 79, Congresswoman Jackie Speier’s bill to remove the time limit, will be taken up the week of February 10th.

Breaking: Virginia’s Final Votes on the ERA
On Monday, January 27th we will be in Richmond for the final celebration of Virginia’s vote to become the 38th and final state needed for ratification of the ERA. Each chamber of the Virginia General Assembly–the House of Delegates and the Senate–will vote on the other’s ERA resolution that passed last Wednesday, January 15th. This final determination will be sent on to the Archivist.

An extraordinary day, nearly a century in the making, nearly half a century since Congress passed the Equal Rights Amendment and states began the ratification process: something really big to put in the DONE! category–the state of Virginia today voted to become the 38th state to ratify the ERA.

Today Chief Patron House Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy’s ERA resolution HJ 1 was voted out of the House Privileges and Elections Committee by a vote of 13-9. The ERA had been stopped there many times before.
